Now, before I get into this, I just want to say - wow! Honestly, I did not expect this. Don't get me wrong, I think Christian Bale is one of the best actors around and can easily be the difference between a good film and a great film, and once again, he's fantastic. 'Ford v Ferrari' is potentially one of the biggest underdog films of 2019. It didn't dominate headlines, it was hardly advertised on TV. It really was and is a hidden gem. True stories that are adapted for films either go really well or really bad. This went really, really well. Not only is this a fascinating story, but the film is just beautiful. Throughout, it is dominated by vivid colours and impeccably accurate engine sounds. This truly is one of the best films of 2019 and, unfortunately, gets misunderstood or discarded just because of the name. Despite being on the most part about building the Ford GT40 that raced at Le Mans, the story is about the battle to get it there. I truly enjoyed watching this, and I can't wait watch it again. Matt Damon and Christian Bale perform perfectly together with their styles complimenting throughout. It is true cinema and I wish I had the chance to see it then. And despite being about cars, the story "isn't about speed".
